Movements

The movements of the fingers and thumb are described in the usual terms of flexion, extension, abduction and adduciton, but also in the particular action of opposition. The movement of opposing the thumb agains the distal pad of a finger is peculiar to the hand.

The movements of the thumb are considered to be on a plane that is at right-angles to the plane of the fingers. Flexion of the thumb occurs at right angles to flexion of the fingers.

Movements of the fingers:

Abduction.

Adduction.

Flexion.

Extension.

Lumbricals.

Opposition.
